2010 Topic:
An Authentic Life
We don't know ourselves, we knowledgeable people—we are personally ignorant about ourselves. And there's good reason for that. We've never tried to find out who we are. In our hearts we are basically concerned with only one thing, to "bring something home.”
- Friedrich Nietzsche
When we blindly follow the flock, crowd, herd or culture, we are being inauthentic towards ourselves and less than fully human. Impressionists created an entirely new genre of art that came from self-expression that would not be stifled, rather than living a life of conformity. Leaving behind the inauthentic life, it is possible to become more whole, centered and integrated. Akin to jazz being an expression of freedom, in living authentically, we compose and sing our own song. In this Master Class, we will explore what it takes to live an authentic life.Purpose
To examine with alive and interested curiosity, who we have taken ourselves to be, and return home to our unique, emergent and essential self.
Outcomes
- You will sense and realize the source and trajectory of your current narrative, and its degree of authenticity.
- You will learn how to discern and free yourself from unconscious falsity in your life.
- You will refine your abilities to discriminate the essential from the inauthentic in your clients and compassionately design skillful means for them to return home to their heart
Logistics
Length: One and a quarter days. We added an evening before the full day of the class to give more time to the topic at hand, so we will start by connecting as a community, reviewing our precourse assignments, and getting ready for a full day of engaging with the topic.Hours: 7–9:30 pm, 9 am to 6 pm
